We plan C24 for export customers – making sustainable choices easier

Norra Timber is now launching construction timber in pine – classified as C24. This new initiative allows the sawmills to better utilize smaller logs, resulting in increased turnover in the planing mills.

Traditionally, spruce has dominated the construction timber sector – in southern Sweden and Central Europe, it has been the base product. As storm damage and bark beetle attacks have reduced the availability of spruce, sawmills have started offering construction timber made from pine.

In northern Sweden, the proportion of pine is even higher – and now it is the raw material for Norra Timber’s new export ventures. Construction-grade pine, which has previously been rare on the market, is now being sold to countries like Denmark and the United Kingdom.

"This is a way for us to make use of high-quality pine while broadening the market. We get better prices for the products, and we can increase the utilization of our planing mills", says Erik Eliasson, Sales Director at Norra Timber.

C24 is a strength class for construction timber used in everything from floor beams to roof trusses.
